Abstract

[Indexed for MEDLINE] Conflict of interest statement: Declaration of Competing Interest None. 12. Clin Orthop Relat Res. 1987 Jan;(214):11-8. Biomechanics of small bone fixation. Jones WW. When the correct techniques are used, fixation with plates and screws is biomechanically the strongest fixation available for small bone (hand) fractures. With appropriate preoperative planning and surgical application, plate and screw fixation is rigid enough to withstand the stresses of early use. It is therefore a useful and reliable technique when early motion is desired after open reduction and internal fixation of small bone fractures.
